A Sample of Gouda (2016): Short one paragraph fiction stories set in Gouda and accompanied by colour photographs taken by Vinita Salomé featuring details of the beautiful Dutch city. The texts written by Persephone Abbott are inspired by a quote from Erasmsus, “I am a citizen of the world, known to all and to all a stranger.” Due to his parentage the humanist Erasmus had strong early connections with Gouda, and lived in the city before travelling the world to study, work and write. In a twist, the thirty-one short stories feature people who come from the far corners of the world to visit or settle in Gouda as well as local Dutch citizens. John Graham-King, Managing Director of AngloINFO South Holland, delivers the Foreword to the book.

“Instead of travel guide writing, I have let myself loose within a fictional cadre exploring cultural identity, and the expectations that come from different ways of viewing the world. I took into account the self imposed and outside requirements to finding a new home base, through the eyes of international characters and their experiences.” Persephone Abbott

The Bee’s Tour of Gouda, Buzzing Through Vinita’s Lens (2012) Curious to know a little of the history that shaped the Dutch world you find yourself visiting? Persephone Abbott and Vinita Salomé have used the base of the small city of Gouda to explore Dutch history and culture. This slender book with witty commentary and clever visuals is presented by two ex-pats and can help the foreigner, visitor or new resident, begin to grasp the context of Dutch mentality and culture. As a guide book to Gouda, it prepares the day tourist to be able to appreciate the historical stained glass windows in the St. John’s Church, however if churches aren’t your thing, there are other options given. This book is a unique collaboration between three artists, writer Persephone Abbott, photographer Vinita Salomé and internationally exhibited quilt artist Kathy Nida who provided the maps and illustrations.
